The Meaning Behind “NOVATEC”

The name NOVATEC is a fusion of two words: “Nova” and “Technology.”

Nova：in astronomy, refers to a “new star”—a symbol of brilliance, innovation, and breakthrough. It reflects our commitment to pushing boundaries in yacht design and engineering, always striving for excellence.

The Story of Founder Mr. Eddy Tao

From Taiwan to the world — redefining luxury at sea.

Mr. Eddy Tao, founder of Novatec and Grand Harbour Yachts, is a true pioneer of Taiwan’s yacht industry. With over four decades of experience building export-grade luxury yachts, Mr. Tao has played a pivotal role in bringing Taiwan to the global stage.

From humble beginnings — crafting a 36-foot yacht with an 80HP single engine — to today’s 84-foot, twin-engine vessels boasting 1,850HP, he has never stopped innovating. Guided by a relentless pursuit of excellence, innovation, and transformation, Mr. Tao has pushed the boundaries of design and engineering, earning recognition from presidents and world leaders alike.

Even before Taiwan officially opened its yachting industry, Mr. Tao was championing the yachting lifestyle, hand-building vessels and sharing his vision with the world. Revered by the media as “The Father of Yachting in Taiwan,” he has not only shaped an industry, but also cultivated a new way of life.
